Living with lipoedema and secondary lymphoedema

I wanted to share a little about my lovely client Lou, who I’ve now had the pleasure of working with for a year.

Lou lives with lipoedema and had also developed secondary lymphoedema associated with her condition.

Our paths crossed through her Pilates instructor, who happens to be a client of mine. Through conversations we’d had about lipoedema, sharing knowledge and raising awareness of the condition, her instructor recognised that I might be able to help Lou.

Lou and I exchanged a few messages before meeting, and I remember her telling me how relieved she felt to discover that not only did I specialise in lipoedema, but I also live with the condition myself.

Sometimes knowing that someone understands what you’re experiencing can make all the difference.

Fast forward a year, and the changes have been wonderful to see.

Lou’s lymphoedema has improved significantly. Through our regular treatments, I’ve been able to feel changes in the consistency of her tissues, with areas becoming softer and less congested. I’ve also noticed positive changes within her lipoedema affected tissues.

But this hasn’t just been about the treatment she receives from me.

Lou has made some wonderful changes herself. She’s lost weight, embraced changes to her nutrition, become more active and developed a much better understanding of her body and what works for her.

These changes have all been part of her progress, alongside the clinical treatment and support we’ve worked on together.

And perhaps the most rewarding part for me?

Watching her confidence and self-esteem grow.

Managing lipoedema and lymphoedema isn’t just about reducing swelling. It’s about education, recognising your triggers, understanding your body and finding ways to manage your condition that are realistic and sustainable.

It’s also about recognising that progress looks different for everyone.

I’m incredibly proud of Lou and the commitment she’s made over the past year.

Because sometimes the most meaningful changes aren’t just what we can see or feel within the tissues.

They’re in how someone feels about themselves, their confidence and their quality of life

Lou's own words

"I feel so fortunate to have found Abigail Strike. She is incredibly knowledgeable and genuinely an expert in lipedema and lymphoedema.

Abigail treats my legs, tummy and arms, with my legs being my main focus, and I can see a noticeable difference in them following treatment. What I particularly value is that she doesn’t just provide the treatment, she shares lots of practical tips and advice on how to manage the symptoms of lipedema day to day.

She is professional, caring and clearly passionate about helping people with lipedema. I always leave my appointments feeling that I understand my condition better and have more tools to manage it.

Finding someone who truly understands lipedema has made such a difference to me. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Abigail to anyone looking for knowledgeable, specialist support. I would give her 100 stars if I could!!"
